The Care Act 2014 is changing….are you ready?

The Care Act 2014 represents the most comprehensive change in care and support in a generation – is your organisation ready?

As well as turning current best practice into legislation, the Care Act 2014 also introduces new duties to ensure that wellbeing, dignity and choice are at the heart of health and social care.

From April 2015, legislation will be in place for:
• prevention and wellbeing
• information, advice and market shaping
• a national minimum threshold for eligibility
• assessments, including assessments for carers’
• personal budgets
• care and support plans
• safeguarding
• universal deferred payment agreements.

The Care Act takes into account the findings of the Dilnot Commission Report into the Funding of Care and Support. From April 2016 it will introduce changes to how care is charged for, who has to contribute, and how much people will have to pay towards their care.

From April 2016 legislation is due to be in place for:
• extended financial support
• a cap on care costs
• care accounts

For more information please read this Summary Guide to the Care Act and its implications for providers.

The guide is also available in full on the Local Government Association’s website.
